Vision and Imagination inspired the purchase of 8.5 acres of land near a dirt road named Daniel's in the early 1980's. Soon after that, the Horizon Evangelical Friends Church began. Later, Horizon Church shared the property with a new church in Fort Myers, Pilgrims United Church of Christ. In 1988, the two churches entered into a partnership to build a new Worship Center and Chapel where each congregation could meet for services. Sharing a common bond of a love for Christ and for His work, their vision grew, and the merger of Horizon Evangelical Friends Church, and the Pilgrims United Church of Christ became a reality forming the new Church of the Cross.

On July 1, 2003, the first Church of the Cross worship service was held. In July 2007, the new Community Center was completed in order to provide a place for worship, culture, and recreation to the surrounding community. Church of the Cross continues to reach out to our community and to be committed to ministering the Word of God and the love of Jesus Christ to all who come.
